Yay, Patrick Jane is back! He hasn't really been away, but his character had mellowed a bit and wasn't doing the usual carney schtick he does. But in this episode he does. A man is found dead in a field, shot and with his neck slashed open. When the coroner, Steiner, brilliantly played by George Wyner, takes the body away, they are highjacked and the body is stolen. The story then investigates the victims family and work all the while, Jane has worked out who the killer is.
Meanwhile, he shows compassion to the coroner, whom he would usually poke fun at when he deduces that he is terminally ill. The episode ends rather shockingly but poignantly and adds yet another layer to our complex hero. This is powerful television and brave writing. Congratulations. Another exceptional episode of The Mentalist.
