Star Trek - The Animated Series

A few years after the demise of The Original Series, the decision was made to continue the adventures of the crew of The Enterprise in an animated form.  The animation, while not of a very high standard boasts great likenesses of the actors as well as joined with the original actor's voices.  The only actor who was not included was Walter Keonig due to monetary issues, but he ended up writing an episode!
The series even earned an Emmy!
The difference with this 'cartoon' compared to others is that writers from the original series returned to write for this and even continue some of their stories from the live action episodes.
There are 22 episodes with most having deep storylines that while Gene Roddenberry always said weren't canon are now considered so.
The DVD set comes with a few special features, including a 24 minute making of which is incredibly enlightening, 'What's The Star Trek Connection?' which shows scenes or ideas from the animated series and how they have come up in the live action series over the years.  I really liked this!  the last feature is a VERY brief word document on the background of the show.
I really enjoyed rewatching these shows (I haven't seen them since I was a kid) especially just after watching TOS.  I think they did a fantastic job of making sure this was truly Star Trek.
A must have for any Star Trek fan.
