Ah, the great John Williams. I recently wrote about his Indiana Jones soundtracks and so I had a listen to his Jurassic Park soundtrack, another collaboration with Steven Spielberg. This is a spectacular soundtrack!
I remember seeing this for the first time (CGI was in it's infancy so anything CGI was simply amazing. It was done so well it still holds up today!) and being overwhelmed by the wonder of the very first dinosaur we see reaching up to eat leaves. This memory comes crashing back to earth like the dinosaur's front feet as I listen to this wondrous soundtrack.
The Theme From Jurassic Park is simply one of the most beautiful pieces of music. It captures the majesty and epic stature of this ground-breaking film. Just as Henry Mancini's 'Baby Elephant Walk' made you 'see' and elephant each time you heard the music, this soundtrack evokes the image of dinosaurs loping around the jungle! There are some great action pieces and some soft, simple pieces. Every track evokes a memory of a scene in the film. Not a lot of soundtracks can achieve this. This is easily one of John William's finest soundtracks to date. Might have to watch the movie again!
