When the team arrive to save Barret from her ambush, they find she is gone and one of her team dead and the other badly wounded. Then the unthinkable, Ziva is lured into a trap when she thinks she is going to a hotel room to meet with Ray Cruz, it is actually Cobb waiting for her. The team quickly discover her, alive, at Cobb's family farm but it was all a ruse to get the team out of NCIS so Cobb could infiltrate and get the people responsible for creating him. He captures Kort and Jimmy Palmer. The NCIS team finally discover the truth, that Vance, Kort and the current Secretary of the Navy secretly created the trained killers as part of 'Operation Frankenstein' to create a monster. It is revealed that Barret is the niece of the current Secretary of the Navy and the reason why she was put on the case and why Cobb has her in his clutches, to bring the SecNav out from his protection detail. They track Cobb down to the disused training facility where he is putting his captives through some of the hell he went through. After refusing to give up, Gibbs and Vance shoot Cobb dead. The SecNav resigns his position.
Mike Franks is given a state funeral and is buried in a casket that Gibbs was carving when Franks visited him.
However, the episode ends with DiNozzo being handed an covert assignment to investigate an NCIS agent who is suspected of selling classified information. Who could this be? And DiNozzo gets another stab at working apart from Gibbs. Where will this lead? Can't wait for the new season!
